In most parts of the world a spectrum license is required in order to operate cellular base station equipment, and doing so without one could easily cause interference to other networks and result in legal action being taken. Fairwaves are unable to assist with spectrum licensing matters and operators will need to work directly with the appropriate agency in their country.

Known exceptions

Some countries operate schemes whereby GSM spectrum is made available for unlicensed use. At the time of writing such schemes are known to be operated in:

  • Mexico
  • Netherlands

Further details will be available from the wireless regulators in those countries.
